Day Trip to Salamanga

Visiting Moçambique's Most Important Hindu Temple

The Hindu community in Maputo is about one thousand men women and kids. The templo Shree Ram is in the small village of Salamanga, about 50 kms south of Catembe. The shrine is where it is because a holy man wandering down from India, through Arabia down through Tanzania and Mozambique, finally came to rest here, where he eventually "disappeared" leaving no trace. The temple was founded in 1908 and was extensively refurbished in 2003.
